Video Excerpts

We had a lovely time at the Bull Run seeing a perennial favorite of ours, Davy Knowles, perform a solo acoustic show. It was the first time that we have seen him play his 1932 National guitar live (spoiler: it sounded great – especially with the slide). He also played an octave mandolin and a guitar which he built himself with the help of a good friend. The setlist contained brand new not-even-recorded-yet songs (!), as well as emotional, folky songs from his new album "If I Should Wander", some covers, and old favorites reworked in a solo acoustic treatment.

We somehow ended up with the best seats in the house, dead center, mere inches from the stage. I think we were closer to him than when he played in our own living room 2 years ago.

We got to catch up with Davy for a few minutes after the show, and he was gracious and kind as ever. When he saw us at the merch table, he said "Come in here!" and gave us each a hug. He asked how we are doing, and how the godkids are doing. We bought a T-shirt for Craig and a poster. He immediately started signing the poster "To Steph + Craig...", remembering us by name. I also asked him to sign a photo of us with him when he played our house concert.
