Aida took Tayanta to Cotacachi for her physical this morning. Breakfast was my favorite again: crepes filled with jam. Antonio left for Cotacachi to buy rebar for the house construction. While I was working, we had a red banana and grapes as a snack.

Shortly before lunch, while I was working at the dining room table, I noticed a truck pull up in the front yard. It was a delivery of rebar and bamboo ceiling material for the house construction.

Aida and Tayanta arrived home at the same time, accompanied by Aida's half-sister Cecilia and her 7-month-old baby Ariel. They had all met at the hospital. Ariel had had blood drawn, and had a piece of gauze taped over one hand. Tayanta's doctor had not been there today, so she had made the trip for nothing. They would need to return another day.

Cecelia and Ariel stayed for lunch. We had green soup with popcorn, and something that resembled fried rice but with quinoa instead of rice. It contained bits of chicken, hot dog, and beef. Ariel is such a good baby! As usual, he was wide eyed and just taking in everything around him. He even let me hold him for a while before starting to get edgy.

In the afternoon, Antonio went to Ibarra to get an MRI. His back has been bothering him lately. I continued working, and Craig helped Rosa and the kids to peel uvilla (goldenberry). They look like light orange cherry tomatoes, and are encased in a pouch of paper-thin leaves. Removing the leaves left Craig's hand surprisingly dirty.

The Cosmic Cat Ice Cream truck (Helados el Gato Cosmico) came by, playing funky music. It stopped in front of the house, and Aida bought vanilla soft serve cones for each of us.

Marcelo finished the interior wall of the third floor, and his wife Sandra came over to help as well. They started to work on the rebar until it got too dark to work. Rosita and Natalie came over, and the kids all played school together (Natalie was the teacher).

Dinner was fried rice, chicken, and plantains. Sisa got ahold a copy of James Joyce's "Ulysses" and flipped through it. I had to laugh and get an ironic photo, as it's not a good way to learn English (it has a reputation as one of the most difficult and challenging English language books)!

After the kids went to sleep, we lost internet access. So Craig and I enjoyed a nice evening of reading. Craig read parts of Kristin Hersh's new book "Don't Suck, Don't Die: Giving up Vic Chesnutt" aloud to me while I colored in my Day of the Dead coloring book, while listening to ambient yoga music.

It was another great day!
