Sunday, October 16, 2022 - Party Aftermath

Craig got up to go to the bathroom around 4 a.m. His legs were tired from dancing at the party. He went to grab onto the bathroom doorframe in the dark to steady himself, missed it, and fell. I helped him up.

We wound up sleeping until 10:15 a.m. We went outside and started stacking up the rented chairs from the party. The kids stacked them very high and then perched Dashel up on the top of the stack.

There were cartons of eggs stacked in the kitchen, as well as many 3-liter bottles of soda. These were gifts which had been given to the family by partygoers.

We had scrambled eggs, pineapple juice, and coffee for a late breakfast. Aida's cousin Delia came over with baby Eli. Then we went back outside and cleaned up the yard - what a mess! We had potato sacks which we filled with all sorts of debris: beer bottles, bottlecaps, napkins, plates, balloons, and other trash from all corners of the yard.

We were nearing the end of our visit and clean laundry was growing scarce. I took advantage of the nice weather and did some laundry by hand at the outdoor sink and hung it on the clothesline to dry.

Then Aida left with Antonio and Dashel to deliver some food to people who had helped with cooking and/or had loaned them large cooking pots for the party. I babysat Kuri, and he was cheerful as usual. But then it became time for him to eat, and he realized that Aida wasn't around. At that point, he became inconsolable. Nothing I could do would distract him. This was the only time we had really heard him cry so far on the entire visit. After a bit, Yupanki came to take him from me and try to calm him down. I appreciated the help. Luckily, Aida returned about 10 minutes later.

After Aida fed Kuri and his belly was full, Dashel and Kuri were worn out. The two of them fell asleep intertwined on the bed. It was adorable.

As we would be leaving in a couple of days and I would be working on the weekdays, we took the opportunity to do a bit of preliminary packing today.

Craig's stomach had not been well overnight and wasn't any better now.

We had a late lunch of fried battered fish, plantains, cauliflower, carrots, and tomatoes.

The kids did their homework while Dashel colored.

We didn't eat dinner and went to bed at a reasonable time because I had to work in the morning and the kids would have to go to school.
