Guatemala 7/1/2022 - 7/17/2022

Prologue

We wouldn't miss Vanesa and Danny's wedding for the world. It had originally been scheduled for May, but some requirements needed to be met and it was postponed to July 9. Vanesa told us the new date even before she told her family, to make sure that we could make it. Luckily, we hadn't bought plane tickets yet for May.

Friday, 7/1/2022 - Arrival in Panajachel

At 9:30 a.m., Logan Way car service picked us up and drove us to Logan Airport. We checked in and showed our vaccination cards. We were flying first class, so we got to use the airport lounge. We found a quiet place to sit and enjoyed orange juice, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and some breakfast cakes.

Our flight was scheduled to take off at 12:59 p.m., but was delayed til 2:20. Masks are no longer required on flights or in the airport, but we masked up just in case. The last thing we would want is to miss the wedding due to covid. We enjoyed our first class seats and were fed a charcuterie plate. We had Bailey's on the rocks to drink.

When we got to Miami, the wheelchair that was supposed to be waiting for Craig was not there. We didn't have time to wait; our flight was already boarding. So we took the Sky Train to the proper terminal and arrived at the gate while Group 5 was boarding. We literally had 10 minutes to spare before they closed the door.

We were fed a salad on this leg of the flight (the other option was the same charcuterie plate, and we didn't want to get gout like Bobby Hill!)

We arrived in Guatemala City early. The airport was dead and we made it through immigration quite quickly. We needed to show our vaccination cards once again. We picked up our luggage and exited the airport. We didn't see thefamily right away, so we found a place to wait. Then we saw Paola, Aracely, Paulina, Eddy, and Ivan. All of the kids had grown so much! At 7:20 p.m., we met up with Humberto in the van.

By 10:30 p.m., we made it to the house in Panajachel. We got settled into room #1 on the second floor, and Humberto told us that our "regular" room on the first floor was being remodeled and would be ready in a couple of days.

Vanesa came home from work with Danny, and they gave us an invitation to the wedding. It was adorable! Ivan, now age 7, was very excited and was showing off all of his stuff (Minecraft figures, a skateboard, etc.).

We had some pizza at 11:30 p.m. and then went to bed at around midnight.
