We have seen Frankie Maneiro and Mickey Maguire playing with Eliza Neals, and we have seen Frankie (sometimes with Mickey) livestreaming during COVID, but we have never seen them live with the Blues Express. The CD release party for their first album, "Young Man's Blues", at the Bull Run was the perfect opportunity.
The Blues Express consists of Frankie on lead guitar and lead vocals, Mickey on bass and vocals, and drummer Harrison Foti.
We got seats at the front center table. Ronnie Earl was in the audience. Frankie Boy and The
Blues Express put on a great show lasting over two hours. They paid great tribute to their friend and mentor, the late Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson, an alum of Muddy Waters' band, playing a variety of his songs along with some originals. Frankie holds his own as a frontman, and had the audience hanging on every note.
Friends sat in with them, including Dylan Schouten, Matt Swanton and Ken Edelman from the Matt Swanton Band, and John Brauchler from One Dime Band.
We were blown away by drummer Harrison Foti, who did an amazing percussion solo. He even came over to our table and played on the beer glasses and tip trays.
