We were slipping into a routine whereby Craig woke up early with me each morning. I would log into work, and then we would eat breakfast. Then Craig would go back to the casita to rest until around lunchtime. The kids would arrive home from school, I would work for the afternoon, and then we would play.
I took a break from work this morning for a particularly local breakfast: chocho fritters, (containing lupin seeds grown on the family's new land), plantain cakes, bread with blckberry jelly, coffee, and juice. It was a gorgeous, sunny day.
Marcelo and Antonio worked on the house, building walls for the third floor from concrete blocks and cement.
Teachers from the nursery school came to check on Tayanta, which was very thoughtful. Her doctor said that she shouldn't attend for a while following her last eye operation, because the dust from the playground could be harmful to her eyes. It was nice to see the teachers stop by to check in on her. Yet another example of the tight-knit community of Morochos. It made our hearts happy.
Lunch was a quinoa soup and pasta with ground beef.
It seems that the avocado tree was just a rest stop for the swarm of bees that had arrived earlier in the week. There was no sign of them today.
Sisa went to Cotacachi with Rosa in the afternoon, and Antonio sanded the wooden casings on several windows for the addition. Tayanta amused herself by playing with Chipi the cat. She would extend her arms straight out in front of her and then drape the cat over her outstretched arms, carrying her around the house and yard. Chipi was remarkably patient with Tayanta, and tolerated the treatment for longer than we expected before leaping away.
After work, I helped Aida to fold and put away laundry. With three young kids and laundry that has to be done by hand, it is a constant battle. The kids go through multiple changes of clothes per day, so the laundry tub and clotheslines are always overflowing with clothes.
By the time it got dark, the third floor walls were full height!
For dinner, we had chicken noodle soup, very tasty meatballs, potato cakes, and juice.
During dinner, we noticed that Chipi the cat was playing with something, throwing it in the air, catching it, etc. It turned out to be a small mouse. Chipi would eat well tonight!
