Wednesday, 5/11/2016 - Working RemotelyOnce again I got up early to start work. For breakfast today, we had choclo pancakes, juice, bologna, coffee, and bread. Rosa prepared the choclo pancakes over the fire, and we ate in the kitchen.I worked on my laptop at the kitchen table. When the kids got home from school, they presented us with lovely gifts, in preparation for our departure on Sunday. They gave us each a very light-weight, loose-fitting shirt featuring traditional embroidery, as well as a fleece. It was so sweet of them! The shirts are perfect for warm weather; it's exactly what Craig has been lookin for to wear during warm weather travels. And the fleeces are packable and perfect for the cold. Antonio was able to get a cylinder of gas from a friend in Quiroga. He thinks that cooking outside with a smoky fire in the cold and dampness is making Rosa's cold worse, so he wanted to do what he could to make the stove usable again. Lunch would be the last meal she would need to cook outside. Lunch was a hearty bowl of soup, followed by a plate of choclo, beans, cheese, and steak. Antonio practiced his saxophone while the kids played with gifts we had given them: little bendable dolls from India and miniature Volkswagen beetles. It's always difficult when the time nears for us to go home, so we made sure to spend lots of time playing with the kids. Later in the afternoon, the sun came out. Rosa immediately positioned the outdoor table in the sunshine, and stood there soaking in the vitamin D while she worked sewing blouses. It was nice that Rosa was able to cook dinner indoors tonight, to give her sinuses a rest from the cold air and smoke of cooking outdoors over the fire. After dinner, we played with the kids a bit more and then went to bed. |
