Thursday 8/10/2017 - Hanging Out with the KidsToday we had a low-key day around the house. When I was done with work, we gave Eddy a Minion jigsaw puzzle. It had 48 pieces, and the picture was just a jumble of Minions, making it tricky. We coached him when he seemed to get a bit overwhelmed. I told him that my dad had taught me to start with the edges, and I always follow that advice when making puzzles. Craig coached him to look at the shapes of the pieces in order to rule some out regardless of the image. In the midst of the puzzle making, Paola returned from work. Between working 40 hour weeks and going to nursing school on Saturday and Sunday, with English classes on certain weeknights, she is hardly ever around the house. We invited her to Sarita for an ice cream, and she accepted the offer. Eddy came with us as well. We went to the Sarita location which is closer to the house/lake. As we were enjoying our ice cream, Paola spotted Craig from Australia walking up Calle Santander. We called him over to chat. We had a lot of fun watching his interactions with Eddy. Many laughs ensued. He also got to catch up with Paola, whom he hasn't seen in two years. As we walked down the alleyway to the house, Paola started to tickle Eddy until he collapsed on the ground in fits of giggles. Eddy went back to our room with us and continued working on the Minion puzzle. There was a foul odor in the room. Craig and I each checked our shoes to see if we had stepped in something outside, but our soles were clean. The odor persisted and we asked Eddy to check his shoes. Eddy disappeared for a few minutes and came back, sheepishly announcing "It was my pants!" Apparently when he had fallen to the ground during Paola's tickle offensive, he had laid in some dog poop from one of the neighbor dogs. He had changed his pants and the room smelled fresh once again. ("It was my pants!" has since become a catchphrase, of course!) Eddy finished the Minion puzzle. We were very proud of him. He was still a bit intimidated by it, and didn't want to take the whole thing apart. Instead, he disassembled the bottom third. He then reassembled just that part, and then merged it back into the rest of the puzzle. For dinner, we had chili con carne with rice. We all had yogurt for dessert. Ian was very ill when he was an infant, and has some lingering health issues. The doctor advises them to give him two servings of yogurt a day (one in the morning and one at night). Ian absolutely loves it! By the time we went to bed, it was pouring rain again. |
