Guatemala 7/1/2022 - 7/17/2022

Sunday, 7/3/2022 - Panajachel

We came downstairs at around 9 a.m. again today. Breakfast was pancakes, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee.

After breakfast, Craig and I walked down Santander Street to go to the ATM. Along the way, we stopped into the Lago Aventura tour office where Aracely was working. The street was closed to traffic today due to an event down by the lake, so it was much less hectic than a usual day (no cars or tuk-tuks speeding by). We noticed lots of new and/or renovated businesses since the pandemic. All of a sudden, black light T-shirts seemed to be all the rage, and many stores had black lights installed to show them off. While walking down the strteet, we saw Junior, who is now all grown up, married, and working at a local bank. We stopped to talk to him and congratulated him on his recent wedding. We looked forward to meeting his wife Gloria at Vanesa's wedding on Saturday.

Back at the house, we enjoyed lunch of hamburg, rice, and salad. After lunch, we went up to the roof to check out the view. Many people are building upwards, so the view of the lake gets more and more obstructed each year. However, you can still see the surrounding volcanoes. From the roof we could see Humberto's sister Juana in her yard next door, and we called down to her.

The kids' cousin Dulce (now 9 years old) came over to play with Ivan. They played with his Minecraft figures and with puppy Octavio.

Humberto told us that our original first floor room was now ready for us to move in. It was repainted, the bathroom was completely redone with new fixtures, and there was a brand new king sized mattress. They take such good care of us! We moved all of our stuff downstairs and got settled before dinner. This room was much cooler, and not as bright in the morning light.

Dinner was huevos rancheros with fried plantains, refried black beans, cheese, and crema. Aracely and Eddy went to get Sarita creamsicles for dessert. I had orange and Craig had strawberry. We mentioned that we had run into Junior earlier in the day, and that reminded Humberto that he had a gift for us: a bottle of run from Junior and Gloria's wedding. The bottle had a photo of Junior and Gloria taped to it. At the time of the wedding, he had told us that he had saved one for us, which was very kind. We wished that we could have been there for their wedding.

We went to bed at 10:15
