Tuesday, 7/5/2022 - PanajachelToday's breakfast was cereal, toast with peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, bananas, and coffee. Paola came home after working a 24 hour shift at the clinic. We are so proud of her. She is a successful and well-respected nurse. We played with puppy Octavio, and this was te first morning that Moua the big dog didn't growl at us as soon as he saw us. Lunch was grilled steak, tostados, homemade guacamole, and tamarind juice. Vanesa was busy preparing for her wedding, which will occur in just four days. She showed us the flower girl basket, ring bearer pillows, wine glasses, and bouquet. It was very hot today, so we went into our room to cool down. Octavio the puppy came in as well. He hid under the table for a while and then fell asleep on Craig's laptop bag. We went for a walk down to the lake with Aracely. We saw some new murals which had been painted, as well as an installation shaped like a heart for Instagram photos. We got some photos of the lake and the surrpunding volcanoes. We wanted to take Aracely for ice cream, so we walked up Calle Santander. The Sarita ice cream shop closest to the lake has now closed, and the bookstore that used to be next to it has moved. We went to the original (larger) Sarita and got ice cream cones. Craig and I each got a chocolate waffle cone dipped in peanuts with dulce de leche ice cream. Back at the house, dinner was broccoli soup, chicken and potato taquitos, and toast with tea. Ivan showed us the maquettes he had made with wire and plasticene clay; they were characters which had minute details including teeth. He is such a creative boy, and is able to entertain himself for hours. He was also making a house for his Minecraft figures out of cardboard boxes and discarded tiles. We went to bed at 10 o'clock. Tomorrow morning would be my first day working, and I had to get up early. The time zone here is two hours earlier than at home. |
