Friday, June 20, 2025 - Working RemotelyI woke up at 6:30 a.m., thankfully with no headache after drinking all of that birthday tequila last night. Paulina brought me coffee and apple bread as I worked at the dining room table, which had been relocated yesterday to the patio.Craig woke up, and Paulina immediately got coffee for him, knowing that he needs coffee right away in order to wake up. For breakfast we had scrambled eggs with ham, beans, and orange juice. Paulina and Humberto went to market and did errands. I worked some more, and lunch was sausage and veggies with hibiscus tea to drink. There was fresh, home-made guacamole served with tortillas. Today was a "summer Friday" at work, so I got out of work early. This afternoon it poured rain. The entire patio is covered with a roof, so apart from occasional drips, we could stay dry while still outside. They have gutters and plastic pipes which they put into place when it rains, so that rain catchment is redirected to their cistern. We have learned the routine and are able to help with pipe placement at the first sign of rain. After I was done with work, we played Uno for hours with Ian, Paulina, and Paola. We enjoyed eating our Tortrix Chile-ros snacks that Aracely had brought for us yesterday. Humberto brought us a warm drink called atol de habas, which is made of fava beans. I am not usually a fava bean fan, but this was surprisingly tasty and hit the spot on this rainy afternoon. We had more apple cake as a snack. We had chicken chuchitos for dinner, a Guatemalan street food wrapped and steamed in a corn husk. We had tea to drink. We retired to our room at around 9:30 p.m. |
