We boarded our plane shortly after midnight. We were at the very back of the plane. We met a nice guy named Abhi was seated next to Craig. He was on his way to Trinidad via Curacao. We refused a meal (we were still stuffed from the delicious dinner at Jagdish Ji's house) and instead tried to sleep. We fell asleep and woke for breakfast. We didn’t eat much of the vegetarian meal except for some watermelon.
We arrived at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport at around 5:30 a.m. We found our gate and texted Mukul. We heard back from him that he and Jagdish Ji were currently on the train to Agra. We chatted with Abhi and settled in for a long 9 hour wait. We went for a snack of mozzarella and tomato melt on bread, two glasses of orange juice, and two cinnamon rolls for 16 Euros. There was an adorable model of the airport made out of LEGO, and I made sure to get a picture of it. We didn't realize until it was too late that we could have gotten a day room at the hotel inside the airport for a rather reasonable rate. If we ever have that long a layover in Amsterdam again, it would definitely be worth it to have a nice place to lay down and get a nap. We chatted with Abhi until his flight time and then we went to our own gate. The balloon boy scandal (which we knew nothing about) was all over the news. When it was time to go through security, we were the first ones through into the secure area. The flight was on time at 2:30 p.m. For our inflight meals, Craig had chicken and I had cannelloni. Then later we were served pizza and an ice cream cup. We landed in Boston at 2:40 p.m. (strange how time zones work, after a transatlantic flight, we arrived a net 10 minutes after takeoff). We went through immigration and picked up our checked luggage quickly. Steve picked us up at the airport with fresh Dunkin Donuts coffees. It was nice to be home after such a long journey Two days after returning home, we wrote a final blog post about the remainder of the trip. |
