Saturday, 2/27/16 - Kochi -> Dubai -> Boston |

Woke up at 1:45 a.m. via alarm (and it was a good thing, because our pre-arranged wake-up call never came through). Mukul got up to see us off, which was very sweet of him, since he could have slept an additional two hours before catching his flight home. We had tried to tell him that it wasn't necessary, but...he's Mukul.
The Marvel Tours representative met us, and we drove literally across the street to the Cochin Airport. It was less than a five minute ride, and we had been able to see the airport from our hotel room. The Marvel representative checked us in and tried to get an upgrade to first class for the first leg of the trip. It ultimately did not happen, but we appreciated his efforts. We went through immigration, customs, and security. The terminal was very hot with little air movement. We browsed in a few shops, and then found a place to sit down until it was time to board our flight to Dubai. We took off on time at 4:30 a.m. We were barely awake and fell asleep as soon as we could. Before landing, they served us a breakfast of scrambled eggs. We landed in Dubai, went through security there, and were able to go directly to our departure gate. Both of us had slightly upset stomachs this morning. This seems to happen to us when we wake up in the very wee hours. So we weren't in great moods and just wanted to get home. We boarded our Emirates flight, and it took off on time at 8:40 a.m. For breakfast, Craig had a cheese omelet and I had paneer bhurji. I worked on typing up my notes from the trip. For lunch we had mehti paneer. I typed more. We listened to Bob Dylan on random on the iPod. I was done typing at 9:43 a.m. home time. Typing up Facebook posts for each day really gives me a good starting point, and then I fill in the gaps. I was happy that I had gotten so much done on the flight. We knew that we must be landing soon when the flight attendants came through handing out personal pizzas. We arrived in Boston at around 2 p.m. It was amazing that we had woken up before 2 a.m. on 2/27, and by the clock, it was only 12 hours later. But we had traveled from Kerala to Dubai to Boston, and we had been traveling for 22.5 hours! It was nice to get home on a Saturday afternoon. We were able to unpack, do laundry, get a full night's slee, and then have another full day before having to go back to work. |
