Utica 8/4/2022 - 8/8/2022

Thursday 8/4/2022 - Arrival

We left our house at 12:34 p.m., and arrived in Utica at 4:46 p.m. David wa working, so we hung out with Tyson and the pets (boxer Roxy and kitty Spooky). Tyson made us a delicious dinner of pork chili verde.

We listened to Kate Bush on the turntable. David came home from work and we chatted and ate some homemade black currant cake.

Friday 8/5/2022 - Taj Mahal Restaurant

Tyson made us delicious portabello mushroom, roasted red pepper, goat cheese, and bacon omelets for breakfast. David went to work, and Tyson took us to the Utica College campus where we saw the new science building.

For dinner we went to the Taj Mahal restaurant, where we had a delicious meal. As an appetizer, we had veggie fritters. Craig and I each got a mango lassi to drink. I had paneer tikka masala and and garlic and cheese naan. Craig had lamb curry and garlic naan.

Tyson introduced us to "Only Murders in the Building", which soon became my favorite TV show. It was smart and funny.

David came home, and we had some of Utica's famous half moon cookies...chocolate/peanut butter and raspberry/coconut. Yum!

Then we listened to Tears for Fears and Marianne Faithfull on the turntable.

Saturday 8/6/2022 -Michael T's

We had hazelnut croissants for breakfast. Tyson gave us a tour of his native garden. Then he baked a cake from black currants that he had grown himself.

David went to work, and we met up with him later at his family's restaurant, Michael T's. We sat at the bar where he was bartending. Craig had the prime rib, and I had the veal Trunfio with fries. I drank a Moscow mule, and Craig had a Southern Tier IPA.

We went back to the house and watched more episodes of "Only Murders in the Building" while waiting for David to get home from work. Then we watched a Go-Go's concert on DVD, followed by some Nick Cave videos. Craig tried some Jameson whisky.

Sunday 8/7/2022 - Cookout

For breakfast, we had raspberry danish and coffee. We went to Hannaford with Tyson (and saw a road lemon in the parking lot). In the store, there was also a display of Bud Light cases and kegs made to look like a tank. 'Murica! On the way home, we stopped at the the liquor store. For lunch, we had pretzel rolls with queso.

Tyson made stuffed jalapeños with home-grown peppers to have with dinner. He left them on a tray on the dining room table, and Roxy ate them. All of them. We were disappoited for ourselves, and worried about how her digestive tract would fare.

We had Pimms as a refreshing beverage. For dinner, we had ribs with cherry bbq sauce, chicken skewers, salad, and stuffed portabellos.

After dinner, we put Stevie Nicks on the turn table and then had the black currant cake with vanilla ice cream.

Monday 8/8/2022 - Departure

Although it had been too hot and humid to do much of anything other than hang out at the house in the air conditioning, it had been a great weekend of hanging out and catching up with dear friends.

We stopped at the gas station to fill up, and it was 12:34 p.m. when we left the gas station. To avoid traffic on Rt 128, we took 495 to 93 to 62. We got home at 5 p.m.
