Monday, 4/25/2016 - Working RemotelyIt was a beautiful, sunny morning, and I took a walk around the property to say good morning to my favorite little piglet! The kids left for school, and the rest of us had breakfast at 8:30. We enjoyed croissants with cheese baked inside, scrambled eggs, tea, cheese, and juice. After eating, Craig was still really tired, so he then went back to the casita to rest. I think that between our late night arrival and acclimitazation to the altitude, he is feeling even more fatigued than is usual with his MS. Even though we had gone to bed early last night, the family had stayed up late entertaining Antonio's bandmates. Aida didn't go to work today, and Tayanta didn't go to nursery school. In fact, Tayanta didn't even wake up until 11:30 a.m. Rosa was making stock from the pig bones. She was in a silly mood and put the two pieces of jaw together and made the skull talk. She went over to Tayanta, moved the jaw, and made it say "Buenas dias!" It was hysterical. Tayanta gave a look like she thought Rosa was crazy. It was great to see Rosa so lighthearted having so much fun. At 1 o'clock, Sisa and Yupanqui returned home from school and we enjoyed a nice lunch of corn and pork stock soup with popcorn, pulled pork, mote, potatoes, and Coca Cola. Craig ate lunch with us, but then went back to the casita to rest some more. A thunderstorm rolled through. Aida and Sisa left to go shopping in Cotacachi. Craig got up when I finished working for the day. Yupanqui and Tayanta invited us outside to play with them. Yupanqui asked Craig to give him a ride in the wheelbarrow. Craig has to be careful not to over-exert himself, but he took him for a quick spin around the patio. They played with blocks and then Yupanqui set up shop in the wheelbarrow, "selling" stuffed animals and uvilla fruit. "Vende! Vende!" he would call to try to attract customers. It was very cute! He tied a My Little Pony to the handle of the wheelbarrow, and spent a good 5 minutes getting a T-Rex tied there too. He was really showing good patience. Mi Nena was riding on a small toy truck and transporting uvillas. Then Yupanqui hung uvillas by their stems on a box like Xmas ornaments. Yupanqui is much better with anger management than on previous visits. When something is bothering him, he just walks away and clenches his hands. He may cry, but there's no hitting, throwing, etc. He is definitely maturing and plays better, both by himself and with others. They were pretending that Peluchin the puppy was a baby, wrapping him in blankets and putting him to bed. Sisa, Aida, and Antonio came home with supplies (shampoo, soap, new toothbrushes) at 6 p.m. The kids watched wolf videos online. They seem obsessed with wolves - watching videos like the boy who cried wolf, wolf legends, and the 3 little pigs, as well as pretending one of them is a wolf and chasing the others around. We wondered where this interest came from, because as far as we know, there are no wolves in Ecuador. They also watched a video of a scary Otavalan legend. Mi Nena loved it but Sisa blocked her ears. For dinner we had cabbage soup, steak, sauteed and seasoned melloco, and rice. We wished Aida a happy birthday and ate cake leftover from yesterday's party. We went to our room around 8:30 because the kids were tired. I colored a Ganesha in my adult coloring book, and Craig did some computer stuff before we both turned in for the night. |
