Tuesday, 4/26/2016 - Working RemotelyI started work at 7 a.m. again this morning. Sisa and Yupanqui ate soup for breakfast at the table where I worked. Yupanqui gets upset in the mornings before school, especially days like today when he has to take a cold bath. Who can blame him?Mi Nena (Shina Tayanta) left for school after the others, at 8:15. Rosa made us breakfast at around 9, when she returned from dropping Mi Nena off. We had scrambled eggs with onions and peppers, coffee, bologna, juice, bread. The kids get breakfast at school (shortbread cookies and Quinoa Mix cereal with a cartoon of an Incan king on the front). Apparently the other kids at school think that the quinoa cereal mix resembles dog food, so they refuse to eat it. Our kids love it, so the school gives them the entire bag to take home. Shina especially loves the cereal and calls it "galletas". When the kids got home from school, we ate lunch. We had soup, as well as chicken, radishes, rice, and lentils. The kids ate Aida's leftover birthday cake while watching Peppa Pig's birthday party on the internet. Shina loves Peppa Pig and is always wearing her Peppa sweatshirt, or her Peppa T-shirt under other clothes. She never wants the T-shirt to be washed, LOL! This afternoon, Shina pointed to the bathroom and said "baño" (bathroom). Craig said to me, "They painted [the wall outside of the bathroom] since the last time we were here." Shina then said "Papi pintado" (Papi painted it). It was as if she had understood what we had said in English. She never ceases to amaze us. Although she has a visual disability, she seems to be very good at auditory learning, seemingly remembering everything she hears. It was a sunny afternoon and I did some laundry by hand at the outdoor sink. Sisa wrote us some cute notes about how much she loves us. The kids played in the wheelbarrow. Yupanqui decided to wrestle with Peluchin the puppy, but his braid became his Achilles heel as the puppy grabbed onto it and pulled him around. Sisa fed the chickens some dried corn. They have a gorgeous rooster, who is way more healthy looking than most of the poultry around here. We helped Rosa to peel some habas beans in preparation for dinner. Aida came home from work. Rosa's niece Celestina, who lives next door, came over for dinner. We had soup and pasta with hamburg and veggies. After dinner, we talked with the family about our upcoming visit in July. We would be coming with our goddaughter Aracely and her sister Vanesa from Guatemala. We were very excited that our compadres would finally be able to meet one another. We showed them photos of the family and a video from our most recent trip to Guatemala...for sister Yasmin's quinceañera. They are very excited to be meeting the girls in just two months. We went to the casita and went to bed at around 9 o'clock. We were awoken by a mosquito at 4:20 a.m. Yes, a single mosquito managed to wake both of us up and prevent us from falling back asleep. We were both hot in our beds, but we didn't want to take any covers or layers off, for fear of exposing our skin to the mosquito. We eventually turned on the bedside lamp, and that seemed to distract the mosquito so it was less interested in us. We were able to fall asleep once again, vowing to kill the mosquito once daylight came. |
