Saturday, January 19, 2019 - Preparing for the GalapagosToday was our last day with the family before heading to the Galapagos with Mukul and Sisa. We needed to pack for ourselves and help Sisa to make sure she has everything she needs. We also wanted to spend some quality time with Shina and Yupanqui, since they wouldn't be going on the trip with us.For breakfast, we had patacones, bread, ham, cheese, yogurt, fries, eggs, and hot dogs. After breakfast, we gave the kids a construction truck playset. They played with the construction trucks, small pylons, road signs, and other accessories on the kitchen floor. Antonio's bandmates came over to practice music with him outside on the patio. Today we spent most of the day getting ready for tomorrow's trip to the Galapagos with Mukul and Sisa! It will be very exciting as it is Sisa's first time on an airplane. Since the Galapagos islands are a part of Ecuador, she doesn't need a passport to go there, and we can take her without legal ramifications. We got her all packed and ready to go, selecting her clothing and toiletries, packing a large backpack and a small backpack. We also put a few of her larger things into our duffle bags. As we packed our own belongings, we left the door to the casita open. It was another beautiful sunny day. At one point, Chipikins came in and slept on the bed while Cachupin curled up on our doorstep. For lunch we had soup, mora juice, lentils, rice, salad, and hamburger patties. Mukul spent some time photographing the landscape in the late afternoon sunlight. It was bittersweet, because it is his last day with the family. He will be returning to India directly following our 5 days in the islands, hereas we will be returning to Morochos with Sisa for an additional week. He has really bonded with the children, and we know that the family will really miss him. When we went back inside, Mukul wrote the kids' names in Hindi on the whiteboard. He drew them a giraffe as his final animal drawing. For dinner we had soup, juice, chicken, plantain, rice, and mixed vegetables. The family thanked Mukul for visiting, and he thanked them for their hospitality. He had really enjoyed the opportunity to experience their culture firsthand and to be accepted into the family. We were all very excited about the big adventure that Sisa had ahead of her, and tried to get a good night's sleep. |
