Thursday, November 21, 2019 - Working Remotely, A Day Off for the Kids

Today the kids didn't have school due to teacher meetings. But Antonio and I still had to work.

The kids' cousins Ashley and Kelly spent the day at the house. They are both quite comfortable with us now, love giving us hugs, and call us Achi Mama and Achi Taita.

For breakfast, we had fried egg sandwiches, green plantain hash, coffee, and juice.

Aida made lunch: calabash soup, chicken, rice, salad, and llapingachos. Sisa and Rosa left at 12:30 for Sisa's English class in Ibarra.

Aida led the pigs from the front yard to their pen out back, fed them, and adjusted their ropes. El Señor Chipikins was laying on the concrete as the pigs went by, and barely flinched when one of the piglets stepped right over his tail. He then followed us out to the pigpen, and he had black sooty marks on the sides of his face as he rolled in the soil of the cornfields.

After lunch we had a thunderstorm.

In the late afternoon the lights started to flicker. Just before dinner, we lost internet access. Luckily, I was long since done with work for the day.

We went into the kitchen and played the memory card game with the kids.

Sisa and Rosa returned home from Ibarra. We are so proud of Sisa for her commitment to learn English despite the hardships of having to take a busfor over an hour each way after already completing a day at her school in the village.

For dinner, we had soup, meatballs, salad, peas, rice, fried plantain, and juice

Internet was still out so we went to bed early. Before we fell asleep, we lost power. It would be interesting to see if it was restored by morning! Not only did I have to work, but I had to wake up early to try to catch the end of a Michael Palin online charity auction that I hoped to bid on. I set my alarm on my phone since our alarm clock couldn't be trusted.
