Monday, November 25, 2019 - Working Remotely, Ashley and Kelly Visit, Sisa's English ClassIt's Monday morning, which means back to school for the kids and back to work for me. In addition to the kids already being gone when we got up, Rosa was also gone. This week she is volunteering at the school each morning preparing food for the kids.Aida prepared breakfast in her absence: scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, juice, coffee El Señor Chipikins joined me in my office while I worked. When school was out for the day, Rosa and the kids returned home. For lunch, we had cream of squash soup, beef in gravy, rice, salad, fries, and lemon oat juice. Rosa took Sisa to Ibarra for her English class. Cousins Ashley and Kelly came to play with Shina and Yupanqui. They decorated the outdoor Christmas tree with garland and baubles. They were all so excited! I walked by Abuelita's outdoor kitchen and El Señor Chipikins was laying near the fire. As I snapped a photo of him, he broke into a wide yawn. Yup, he's pretty cozy there! Since Rosa was not home, it fell on Antonio and the kids to take care of the pigs. Shina and Yupanqui helped to add a thickener and water to the bucket of table scraps for the pigs. They mixed it together and carried it to the front yard. Three pigs were on one side of the fence and two on the other. The three were fed first, and an impatient one from the other side struggled under the fence in search of food. Antonio helped him to get back under the fence to his own side and then fed them. Abuelita carried a large pile of sticks over to her fire. She is such a hard worker, and always smiling. As it got dark, we gathered in the kitchen. Shina and Yupanqui wrote us cute notes and drew pictures for us. Sisa and Rosa returned from Ibarra. While there, they had bought some school supplies for the kids. For dinner, we had melloco and chicken soup, followed by a heaping plate of chicken, broccoli, carrots, rice, fried plantains, and peas. The juice was Yupanqui's favorite: cantaloupe. |
