Tuesday, November 26, 2019 - Working Remotely, Ashley and Kelly VisitWe lost power at 3 a.m., and it still hadn't returned by the time we got up for the day. Once again I was glad that the 3G was functional on my phone so that I was still able to work.Rosa was volunteering at the school all week. Aida made breakfast: ham and cheese sandwiches, coffee, and crepes filled with jam. There was no fresh juice this morning because there was no electricity to run the blender. Once again, cousins Ashley and Kelly came home from school with Rosa and the kids. They are always a joy to have around. For lunch, Aida had prepared quinoa potato soup, beef, beans, salad, rice, and llapingachos. The electricity came back on at 1 p.m. Yupanqui had a football tournament this afternoon. We were happy to hear this because the community had not been able to afford football since the nationwide strikes last month, so this was a good sign of things getting back to normal. When I was done with work, I came downstairs to find Abuelita grinding corn with a manual grinding stone. I took some photos of her and she flashed her infectious smile. Aida and Rosa were concerned that one of the refrigerators hadn't restarted when the power returned. Craig looked at it with them, and it seemed that everything was set properly. He couldn't find a reset switch. Luckily, when Antonio came home, he knew just what to do. He crawled behind the fridge and reset something which Craig still wasn't able to see. For dinner, we had broccoli soup with popcorn, spaghetti and meat sauce, and delicious banana milkshakes (now that the blender was back, why not?). |
