Wednesday, November 27, 2019 - Working Remotely, A New MotoWe woke up in the morning and heard Rosa and the kids leave for school. As we were getting dressed, we could hear El Señor Chipikins howling and meowing. We hoped that he was not getting into more fights!Since we had heard her leave the house and knew that she was volunteering at school, we were surprised when Rosa knocked on our door shortly after 8 o'clock. It turned out that Antonio was interested in buying a moto. He had to return the one he had borrowed from his friend within a few days. He had found a man with a moto for sale, and had invited him to the house this morning. He had arrived with the moto, and Antonio had taken it for a spin up to the school to pick up Rosa. They had ridden back to the house, and now wanted us to see the moto. It was a white Honda which is lower to the ground, which means that it is a better fit for Antonio and Rosa. They decided to buy it. Rosa went back to the school to continue cooking and Antonio took his new moto to work. Aida made breakfast: llapingachos, bologna and cheese sandwiches, banana milkshakes, and coffee. El Señor Chipikins was around, clearly doing fine, just hungry. He got into the bread bag on counter, stole half a piece of bread, and brought it to his plate under the sink to eat it. A little while after the kids returned home from school, their cousin Elian arrived crying. He had apparently walked home from school to find that his mom wasn't at home. He was very upset, but knew that he could come here and find adults to take care of him. Aida and Rosa calmed him down, and he ate lunch with us: cantaloupe juice, barley soup, and broccoli quiche. My office closed at 3 o'clock for the long Thanksgiving weekend, so I got out early this afternoon and would not need to work again during this visit. The internet went out at 4 p.m. but came back around an hour later. We sat with Sisa at the kitchen table while she did her math homework. Antonio arrived home from work on his moto, and the kids were all very excited to see it for the first time. They sat on it and posed for pictures with Craig. Craig reminisced about his motorcycle-riding days. With his MS, he would never trust his balance to ride one now. We took some photos of El Señor Chipikins at sunset as he looked out over the cornfield. For dinner we had soup with bowtie pasta, quinoa "fried rice," and juice. |
