Monday, July 24, 2023 - Guests from VancouverWe woke up to find that there was still no running water. But it finally came back at around 9:45 a.m. A flurry of activity ensued...filling up the outdoor sink, flushing all of the toilets, and doing dishes.Yupanki made us an omelet for breakfast and we had yogurt, coffee, and bread. After breakfast we took much-needed nice hot showers. You don't realize exactly how much you take running water for granted! And HOT running water? A true luxury. Lunch was soup, shrimp and veggie pasta, and American Cola which someone had brought as a gift to the party. In addition to the gifts for Sisa, people had brought trays of eggs and bundles of 3-liter soda bottles. Those that are not used at the party are given to people who helped out with party preparations, either through cooking or lending of cooking pots, etc. We spent the late afternoon tidying up the yard and house for the tourists who would be staying in the guest house tonight. They arrived just as it was getting dark. They are a group of teenaged girls from Vancouver who are part of a group from Fireside Adventures. They are doing a trip across Ecuador focusing on indigenous cultures and climate change. They were very friendly and had a good rapport with the little kids. We were glad, for their sake, that we now had running water, though something tells me that they would have had a good attitude about it even if the water hadn't returned. We squeezed twelve people around the dining table (one of the guests was not feeling well, and stayed in her room resting rather than eat dinner). For dinner we had cabbage soup, steak, rice, fried plantain, cole slaw, and beans with mora juice. Craig introduced them to the Lao Gan Ma Chili Crisp, and several of them tried it and wound up really liking it. We enjoyed chatting with the guests and their guide. When it was time for bed, Nena literally knocked Craig off his feet giving him a big hug. The whole family went to his rescue and it was hilarious. |
