Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - Guests from VancouverThe girls from Vancouver were already gone for a day of planting and weaving by the time we woke up. They had had an early start to their day, and we had decided that we would have a second shift for breakfast so that Aida wouldn't have to feed everyone at once.We had breakfast at 9 o'clock: choclo pancakes, bread, ham, cheese, coffee, and naranjilla juice. Kuri was playing in a bag of concrete mix on the patio and was absolutely filthy. Aida gave him a bath in the outdoor sink, and he screamed because of the cold water. Lunch was tomato soup, chicken, melloco, fries, and guayaba juice. Then Nena had a bath. She was screaming "No bañar!" over and over again, and didn't stop screaming until the bath was over. We understand; she is bathed in cold water and the water here can be very cold. But the intensity of her screaming might make one think she is actually being murdered or some such. We came to the casita for a while and I applied for some jobs online. Then we went to the kitchen to have some coffee. Sisa was doing homework and drawing at the dining table. Antonio, Aida, and Craig shucked habas while I applied for some more jobs on my laptop. At around 7:30 p.m., the girls from Vancouver came back. Kuri was wearing furry Stitch (from Disney's Lilo and Stitch) pajamas that were very cute. Tonight we had 13 people around the dining table, as the girl who hadn't felt well last night joined us for dinner. We had soup, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, broccoli, and rice with passionfruit juice. The girls who had tried the Lao Gan Ma Chili Crisp last night went straight for it again tonight. The girls gave the family gifts as a thank you for their hospitality. Most of the gifts were Canada-themed: maple syrup, maple cookies, maple caramels, maple leaf baby socks, and maple leaf super balls. They also gave them two water pistols, which Yupanki, Shina, and Nena enjoyed very much. They filled them with water and ran around the yard squirting one another. Sisa got out her guitar and played four songs for the visitors, including "Dust in the Wind." We are very proud of her for performing for guests. It gives her good practice, and it is an enjoyable experience for the tourists. We said our goodnights to the family and goodbyes to the guests. We knew that they would be gone before we woke up in the morning. Now that I am not working, we tend to sleep later. We came back to the room at around 10 o'clock. |
