Sunday, July 30, 2023 - Jelly and Sugar

The Dutch tourists were gone before we woke up, but they took beautiful drone photos and video at sunrise and shared them. It is really cool to see the community of Morochos from this unique perspective.

For breakfast we had scrambled eggs with turkey ham, bread, jelly, coffee, and juice. The kids drew in their notebooks.

Aida mopped the kitchen floor with soapy water. It needed a scrubbing after the party and all the guests. She took down the dining room curtains to wash them as well. Things get dirty quickly around here, especially with two little ones in the house.

Lunch was soup, chicken, broccoli, rice, and peas. One of the baby chicks came into the kitchen and ate a chicken wing that had fallen on the floor. Cannibals!

Yupanki and Antonio left for a music gig. This is the busy season for music groups, as there are many parties and celebrations. Antonio accepts gigs when they are offered, even when he has little to no notice. Once the season passes, gigs dry up for a while, and that is less money coming in.

I read my Penn Jillette book, and Craig joined me outside. Nena pulled Sisa on the little plastic car, then Sisa pulled Shina. It was cute to see them turn the tables and give the big kids a ride instead of the other way around.

We went inside and had our late afternoon coffee. The girls drew some more. We had a Minion notebook in our room that we had brought at one point and never gave to the kids. We gave it to Nena so that she wouldn't always draw in Shina and Sisa's notebooks. Sisa has a very nice colored pencil set, and we learned that she bought it with money that she had earned playing music gigs with Antonio.

We watched Antonio and the band on FaceBook live and saw Yupanki playing percussion. We are so proud of him!

"Jelly Wars" commenced...At this time every day, Nena and Kuri get hungry. As usual, they demanded bread with jelly. However, they don't eat the bread. They just scrape out the jelly with their fingers to eat it, leaving the bread untouched. They are filthy following this ritual, and jelly gets everywhere. Like clockwork, a few minutes after ingesting the jelly, they get a sugar high. They get very hyper and start to spar with one another. Hence why we have named this ritual the Jelly Wars.

Sisa swept the floor after this evening's Jelly Wars. Aida had mopped the floor this morning, and it was already quite a mess, so they tried to keep up with it. Kuri was in his walker. Not five minutes after Sisa cleaned the floor, unbeknowst to any of us, Kuri got into a 25 pound bag of sugar. He dumped a pile onto the floor, and soon Nena was right there, driving through it with the plastic car. The wheels crunched over the granulated sugar crystals, turning them into confectioner's sugar. We dubbed the vehicle the "Sugar Crusher", thinking of the candy go-karts in the fictitious Sugar Rush game from the "Wreck-It Ralph" movie. Kuri repeatedly walked through the pile of sugar in his walker. Where's "Yakety Sax" when you need it? It made such a mess; so much for Sisa's clean floor...we needed to sweep it again immediately.

Dinner was soup, tuna salad, potatoes, broccoli, and a fried plantain.

After dinner, we all went to our rooms. Antonio and Yupanki were still at the gig, and we had no idea what time they would return.
