We woke up at around 9 a.m.. It was another lazy morning with blues shuffle on the iPod/Limin' Cooler. Craig made us a breakfast of Craig McMuffins, coffee, bacon, and orange juice. Then we each took showers.
At around 1:30 we headed outside to the beach. We floated in the water while Craig and Steve enjoyed a beer. We chatted and floated and enjoyed the kind of moments of which daydreams are made. Steve then walked down the beach to Blue Moon and returned with frosty bushwhackers and conch fritters, which we happily ate out on our patio. By now the room had been made up, so we hung out in the air conditioning for a a few minutes while we poured ourselves another round of drinks. Then We headed back outside. Craig and Steve swam while I read some of "Q & A", the book on which Slumdog Millionaire is based, which Mukul had bought for us in Jaisalmer. I took a quick dip in the water to cool off, and then read some more. Craig and Steve came back saying that they almost stepped on a stingray! In all of our years of lazily floating in Secret Harbour we had never even thought of the possibilities of stingrays lurking in the sand. We had seen turtles, coral, fish, and sea urchins here, but never a stingray. I guess we'll just pay a little more attention to our feet in the future. We watched the beautiful golden sunset from the porch and then went inside. Marty arrived at around 6:20, and at 7 o'clock we walked down the beach to the Blue Moon Cafe for dinner. We had focaccia and olive oil, followed by the "ahi tuna tasting menu" appetizer, which Marty ordered and shared with us. It was delicious: sashimi, tartar, and sesame-encrusted deliciousness. I ordered "Sid's Pasta Pomodoro", pasta served with roasted tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil. Craig got pan-seared wahoo with lemon truffle oil. It was served with her d'covaire. This is French for green beans. We learned that while in Mali. When we told this to Marty, he dubbed them Freedom Beans (in homage to the whole French Fry/Freedom Fry debacle of the early 2000's - apparently Marty's not over it yet). This gave us all a good laugh. For dessert Craig had "Auntie's Rum Cake" with rum raisin ice cream drizzled with caramel and raspberry. He remarked that they should card you before serving it, as it was very heavy on the rum. I got the "Ebony and Ivory" - a chocolate mousse cake drizzled with raspberry and chocolate fudge. With full stomachs we headed back to the room to watch the much-anticipated Monday Night Football game - our beloved New England Patriots vs the undefeated New Orleans Saints. We listened to music for a while and then at 9 o'clock, Marty's phone rang. It was Sean (who was back on island after spending Turkey Day in Boston) with horrible news - the cable company on island had ceased their affiliation with ESPN yesterday!! We couldn't watch the game after all! This wasn't happening. We dialed in ESPN and started at a blank screen in disbelief. I tried to get a wireless connection on my netbook but wasn't having any luck with that either. We thought of going to Marty's (he has satellite tv), but it would be too late and we'd be too tired to drive back when the game was over. It is on an hour later here due to the time zone. Craig asked Marty if there was any chance Scott could record it on the DVR at Marty's place, and then we could come over tomorrow to watch it before our flight home. Brilliant! Scott was a good sport and recorded it for us. We dubbed this "Delay of Game." Marty left at around 11 o'clock, and we went to bed at midnight. |
