We set the alarm and got up at 7 a.m. We ate a breakfast of cereal with St. Thomas Dairies milk. We showered and packed up, and I was able to do some more typing on the netbook. We checked out of Secret Harbour at 9:45. We texted Marty and then headed over to his place. The view from there is absolutely beautiful, and we took some pictures.
We saw Marty's roommate Scott and their neighbor Kramer, who had gone on last year's Island Hop with us. We settled in on the couch and snacked on Doritos as we watched the Pats get totally spanked by New Orleans. It was not a pretty sight. Marty kept taunting us by writing FAIL on pieces of paper and hanging them on the TV. Fail indeed. It was a downer in a lot of ways. Not only were the Patriots disappointing us, but in a little while we would need to say goodbye to Marty, leave paradise behind, and begin the journey home. The DVR recording ended abruptly with 2 minutes and 30 seconds left in regulation. It was for the best; it was good to put us out of our misery. We said our goodbyes to and thank you's Marty and left shortly after 1 o'clock for the airport. We stopped at a gas station and filled up the Yaris with $7.34 worth of gas for the 41 miles we had driven since arrival. Craig returned the car keys at the Budget desk while I took advantage of the latest technology upgrade at the airport: self-check-in kiosks. For some reason it only printed one of Craig's boarding passes, so a human had to intervene anyway. There was no line at security, and we settled in at the gate for our 3:55 p.m. flight to Charlotte, North Carolina. We always find it amusing that our flight goes from Charlotte Amalie to Charlotte. At the food court, we got delicious ham and cheese johnnycakes and a bag of sour cream and onion chips and ate them at the gate. The gooey toasted cheese concoction was so good that we tried to buy more. Apparently other people had felt the same, as the woman was now sold out. Our flight took off on time. We were able to see a very pretty sunset descending beneath a cottony layer of white clouds. We landed in Charlotte at 6:30 p.m. It is always a nice low-key airport for a connection. We got Cuban sandwiches (mmm, pork!) with fries at the Rum Grill Express. We boarded our connecting flight, which took off on time at 7:49. We got back to Logan and were on the road home by 10 o'clock. |
