Tuesday, January 29, 2019 - Working RemotelyThis morning there was a new item on the breakfast menu: banana and cheese empanadas with a dusting of sugar. They were absolutely delicious, served with fresh lemonade and coffee. After breakfast, a man from the community came over to practice playing Antonio's keyboard. He set up on the patio. I had another lunchtime meeting, so I was unable to eat my lunch of soup and tostado with the family. After I was done with work, we helped the kids with their homework. Sisa was doing fractions and geometry. Shina was working with words that start with the letter B. Yupanqui was studying geography. We had a gift for them which fit well with the geography theme: an oversized cartoon jigsaw puzzle of a world map which comes with additional pieces representing famous landmarks in various countries. We presented the kids with the puzzle and they were immediately engaged. All three of them did a great job assembling the puzzle. We were especially impressed with Shina, who was quite good at color and pattern recognition despite her visual disability. When we were done with the puzzle, Yupanqui made a paper airplane. He decorated the side with the word "Galapagos," and he drew Craig, Sisa, and me in the windows For dinner, we had soup, potatoes, chicken, and rice. As we walked back to our casita for the night, it was quite foggy. The outside light gave the night an ethereal glow. It rained overnight, and a bit of water came in near our bathroom wall. |
