Thursday, January 31, 2019 - Tiles for the Kitchen FloorAntonio's uncle Juan Pedro was here with his dog when we woke up. We said good morning to him as we went to the kitchen for breakfast.For breakfast, we had fried egg and green plantain hash, juice, and coffee. While we ate, a hungry Señor Chipikins extracted his plastic food tote from its shelf beneath the counter and pushed it out onto the kitchen floor. He then proceeded to sit right next to it until someone came to feed him. Is he trying to tell us something? After last night's discussion about tiling the kitchen floor, Antonio and Rosa were eager to get started. They went to town with the intention of buying tiles. Only a small portion of the floor is currently tiled. The rest, including under the dining table, is concrete. This makes it extremely difficult to keep clean, as there are cracks and crevices where dirt and food particles tend to get stuck. They decided to tile the whole floor so that it would be easier to sweep and mop. Chipikins slept on the bed in my office while I worked. It was always nice to have him there keeping me company, as I am a bit isolated from the rest of the family while working because of the amount of meetings I have to phone into. Several hours later, Rosa and Antonio returned, and a big truck delivered boxes upon boxes of ceramic tiles, patterned in a wood parquet design. Since we would be leaving in two days, we wouldn't get to see the new floor installed on this visit, but we looked forward to seeing it next time.  Kitchen floor tile delivery When I was done with work for the day, we brought out some books of hidden picture puzzles for Shina and Yupanqui. They competed to see who could find all of their hidden pictures first. Sisa and Antonio returned from Ibarra. We all ate dinner together: soup, lentils, fries, beet salad, and rice. |
