Wednesday, October 12, 2022 - Working RemotelyToday was the second day of Program Increment Planning for work, and although I had many meetings, I also had some breaks. I was able to eat breakfast with the family: an omelet containing onion and hot dogs, bread, yogurt, coffee, and pineapple juice. After breakfast, I was able to play with Kuri a little bit before going back upstairs to work.Antonio's uncle Juan Pedro was around today. It is always good to see him. He can't speak, but is always very friendly and cheerful. I finished up work and then went back to the casita. Dashel kept peeking into the casita and playing peekaboo with Craig. We learned that there have been armed (knife) robberies on the buses in Otavalo. Also, students' cell phones and musical instruments are being stolen walking to the bus station. We fear for the kids' safety as they take the bus to school. Sisa, Aida, and Kuri went to Otavalo to do some shopping. We helped Antonio and Yupanki remove kernels from dried corn cobs. The corn is very bad this year due to the excess amount of rain that they have gotten. The corn just rots. Life can be very difficult here. We gave Dashel, Yupanki, and Shina toy cars that they played with outside. Sisa, Aida, and Kuri returned, and Sisa did her homework at the dining table. Dinner was soup, chicken fried steak, salad, beets, and juice. The cats were standing on their hind legs to beg for food from Craig as we ate. They have obviously become more comfortable with us over the past few days. I played with Kuri. Sisa and Dashel were play fighting over hugging Achi Taita. We learned that in addition to the robberies that are taking plae on or near the public buses, there have also been kidnappings in Otavalo. Desperate Venezuelan immigrants seem to be behind some of it. It is quite scary. |
