Friday July 5, 2024 - Vanesa and Danny's House, Granizadas

I got up and worked outside in the morning. I ate breakfast with the family at the outdoor table: huevos rancheros with hot dogs and beans. They also had tortillas which had a thin layer of beans cooked inside them. You wouldn't know from looking at them, but once you bit into them and saw a cross-section, you could tell that there was a very thin layer of black beans inside. We had never seen these before, and they must take a certain amount of finesse to create.

I was looking at Facebook and saw a memory: 8 years ago today we had taken Aracely and Vanesa to Ecuador! Wow, time flies. Aracely was just a kid then. Now, both she and Vanesa are married!

Paola came home with a bag of chocobananas: frozen, chocolate-covered bananas. Some were dipped in peanuts. We each chose one with peanuts. They were delicious and refreshing.

This being a "summer Friday", I was done with work around noon. I helped to cut vegetables for burritos for lunch.

This afternoon Paulina, Ian, Craig, and I went to Vanesa and Danny’s property to see their house, which is under construction. They are building a house in Danny's family's compound, set back from Rancho Grande on the way to the lake. It is coming along very nicely and we are so proud of them! Ian enjoyed exploring the construction, and he and little Coray the dog ran around with boundless energy.

After Vanesa showed us around, she joined us as we walked down to the lake to buy granizadas (shaved ice snow cones) from Paulina’s niece Odilia, her husband Wilson, and their 3-year-old son Wilson Bernardo. Paulina’s sister Olga was there as well. We got strawberry granizadas with bits of fresh peach. Yummy!

The sky looked very menacing. As it started to sprinkle rain, we knew we still had a short walk home and we didn't want to get drenched. So we said our goodbyes and walked up Rancho Grande. Vanesa went to her house and we went back to ours. Soon after we arrived, it started to absolutely pour. We had made it just in time.

For dinner, we had quesadillas. Then we played Uno with Yoselin, Yasmin, Paulina, and Eddy. Eddy held Octavio on his lap and Octavio was looking at his cards, as if he was playing the game himself.
